BOSTON CALLING

THE CHALLENGE

Design a breadth of typographic posters to be showcased in Chase Sapphire's sponsored tent at Boston Calling (2022). These motifs should utilize the colors, fonts, and aesthetic outlined in Boston Calling's style guide. Layouts will need to adapt for both large print placements as well as smaller postcards; attendees will have the opportunity to mail 4x6 versions of the prints to friends and family at the activation, or take them home as a souvenir from the festival.

Copy suggestions: spotlight headliners, lyrics from key artists, plus generic music-related, snarky sayings.

THE   APPROACH

As an Avril Lavigne fan — who is very excited about her return to the music scene — I began by working with lyrics from some of her most recognizable songs to get acquainted with and master the event look and feel. After exhausting my ideas/iterations across her catalogue, I expanded the scope, branching out to The Struts and Weezer, as well as a few other artists with fun, visually inspiring names.

Once our team identified ample balance across each band on the lineup, we shifted focus to generic rock imagery. I constructed the latter suite of designs with iconography at the forefront, shining at the forefront of these compositions. Typography was then added to complete the story, but was not the visual hero in these versions.

Not all creative was selected for the event; the three which were printed and on display are notated below.
